Made to last. Made to matter

Sustainability at Rugs & Riches is not a marketing position. It is a set of choices we
make before the first thread is dyed — in the fibers we source, the processes we run,
and the objects we send into the world.

  • Manifesto

A rug is a long-term object. It should be made that way.
The textile industry is one of the most resource-intensive in the world. We know this — and it shapes every decision we make. Our response is not to offset or compensate. It is to reduce, at the source, through material choices that are inherently less damaging and inherently more durable. We work exclusively with natural, biodegradable, and responsibly sourced fibers. We do not compromise on this.

Beautiful things should leave the world better than they found it.

  • OUR COMMITMENT — FOUR PRINCIPLES

01 — NATURAL FIBERS ONLY

Every yarn we use is natural, biodegradable, and sourced with traceability in mind. We avoid synthetic blends that compromise on decomposition and long-term sustainability. Our fibers are designed to return safely to the earth without leaving harmful residue behind over time.

02 — DURABILITY AS SUSTAINABILITY

The most sustainable rug is the one that never needs replacing. Our in-house production process focuses on creating pieces built for decades of daily use, not short-lived trends. Longevity remains our most direct contribution to reducing environmental impact.

03 — RESPONSIBLE SOURCING

We partner with suppliers who share our environmental and ethical standards. This includes certified regenerative sheep farms in New Zealand, FSC-managed forests for Tencel™, and traditional jute cultivation communities across South Asia and nearby regions.

04 — SAFE DYES — FOR PEOPLE AND THE PLANET

We use only low-impact, environmentally responsible dyes free from endocrine disruptors, heavy metals, and other harmful chemicals. This helps protect our craftsmen, local waterways, surrounding communities, and everyone who lives with our rugs every day.

01 — NATURAL FIBERS ONLY

Every yarn we use is natural, biodegradable, and sourced with traceability in mind. No synthetics. No blends that compromise end-of-life decomposition. Our fibers return to the earth — they do not accumulate in it.

02 — DURABILITY AS SUSTAINABILITY

The most sustainable rug is the one that never needs replacing. Our in-house production process is designed to produce objects built for decades, not seasons. Longevity is our most direct contribution to a lower environmental footprint.

Wool is the heart of our craft — and New Zealand wool is its finest expression.

Responsible making, from first stitch to last.

Every craftsman who works on your rug works under our roof, under our standards.

The floor is the foundation of everything above it.

We make ours with care — for the space it will live in, for the people who will walk on it, and for the world it will eventually return to.
